Patent and Trademark Offices: Extensions of Time and Relaxation of Deadlines

In view of the situation regarding COVID-19, here are the information on the maintenance and/or extensions of time limits according to the various patent and trademark offices.

The UKIPO remains open and has indicated that they will consider agreeing extensions of time on an individual case by case and discretionary basis. If you need an extension due to the pandemic disruption, please contact us as soon as possible. If you have a deadline that you do not think you can meet, do get in touch with us and we will confirm whether it can be extended or not.

EPO

The EPO has extended all routine official action deadlines which fall on or between March 16 and April 16 to April 17, 2020.

Some deadlines are not extended, such as the deadline for filing a divisional application. If you require more information on your deadlines, please contact us and we will confirm whether they can be extended or not.

In the meantime, we will continue to work on current deadlines and manage any additional responses due on April 17.

EUIPO

The EUIPO has also extended all deadlines that are due between March 9 and April 30 to May 1, 2020. Again, we will continue to work on the normal deadlines and manage any additional responses due on May 1. If you have any doubt about any deadlines, please contact us and we will confirm whether or not they they can be extended or not.
